A last minute Reprieve…

September 30, 2008 · Filed Under political opinion · 3 Comments

The Wall Street Bailout Bill, heralded by all those experts as Economic Nirvana, was killed in a rather dramatic and ignoble vote of  228 Nay and 205 Yea.

And it was stupidity we have to thank for such a miracle.  Serendipitous, perhaps, but stupidity nonetheless!

You know that old sage saying:

When the stupidity, of the one, outweighs the stupidity of the many…

Never mind.

On this Youtube, Pelosi is heard lambasting the Republicans for causing the big, huge financial mess.  How it was the Republicans that failed to act, and failed to administer regulations to the banking industry.

And so on.

Perhaps just an innocent oversight, She neglected to mention the "kickback kids - Chris Dodd and Barney Franks and their lack of foresight of leadership in all this.

But back to Pelosi’s stinging admonishments…  Such might have been a great idea…   30 minutes later - too bad she chose to voice them just moments before the big vote.  The affect was swift and sure - the small number of fence-sitting Republicans, scurried away like rats. together with their all-important  "yes"  votes.

Adding to this debacle, she allowed a large number of Democrats, whose re-elections were in jeopardy  (including many committee chairs) to vote "no".

And so America lives again - not because of great statesmanship, but for its wanting.

Ahhh, stupidity.  Like a breath of fresh air.

Here’s the Bailout Bill I’d like to See!

I know wishful thinking.

But just imagine if this were fairyland for a moment…

Imagine a bail-out bill where we decide NOT to provide bail for the two biggest and most corrupt people in this whole affair - Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Barney Franks (D-MA).

Imagine a bail-out bill that required these two lawmakers to personally guarantee all those home loans they mandated banks and lenders to make.

Imagine if people were at least smart enough NOT to re-elect them this November.

Yeah, Imagine that.

I ran across this Youtube that does a pretty good job of describing what happened, and who did what and when…  The music is kind of distracting though…

Here it is:

Any way, it seems almost certain now - that a bailout bill will pass; and in that instance, so will America’s tradition of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and hardy individualism.

Yes any minute now.

God Bless America.

I love pundits - they taste like chicken.

Or put another way, who’d everyone ELSE think won the debate between McCain and Obama?

Lets see.

Neither, and so in his logic, Obama wins the tie (John Dickerson)

Are you getting the idea that McCain lost before he even stepped up to the podium?  No doubt many of these pundits had their opinions written before hand so as not to interfere with their bowling night.

Here’s Frank Lutz on Fox News with his bevy of undecided voters.  Long story short?  Obama wins on style and freshness and McCain looses on being old and tired.

And finally, Drudgereport.com left the voting enabled until late Saturday.   The final tally approximated  433,000 people.  Here’s a screen shot I took sometime late Saturday afternoon; and a few hours before the poll was taken down..

Imagine that…  Drudge visitors must be largely Republicans or at least made-up minds for McCain.  That is if the Pundits are right and Obama won the debate.

On Friday Night, following the debate, I made up my own mind rather quickly and instinctively, and claimed victory for McCain, citing his strength on Foreign Policy.  But now that I’ve had ample time to reflect, had time to read some of the analysis - I’m not so sure it was that big of a win.  Oh, sure he still won; having acquitted himself so well on foreign policy, how could he not.

But it was the opportunities he missed when discussing the economy that I later reflected on; such as:.

-  The large contributions Obama accepted from Fanny Mae and Fanny Mac .

-  The Democrat bailout plan, which embodied grants and not loans to Wall Street.

-  Obama’s 119 "present" votes in the Congress and the lack of leadership that represents.

But I imagine like anything else, there’s the debate you plan for, the debate you hold, and the debate you wished you’d had.

I’m still there for you, McCain!
